We are pleased to announce the FBA North East and Yorkshire Regional Group is re-launching with initially, an evening meeting on the 28th July hosted by the Canal and River Trust in Leeds.

The group is open to anyone with an interest in the ecology and biology of streams, rivers, ponds, wetlands, lakes and canals, including academics, consultants, government agencies, planners and specialist interest groups.
We are aiming to ensure a mix of research focused and applied talks at each event.

The aims of the group is to: increase awareness of the range of freshwater ecology work being undertaken in the north east and Yorkshire region, provide opportunities for discussion among a spectrum of practitioners, and act as an impetus for future collaborative work and knowledge exchange between different parties.

The meeting will be held between 1900 and 2045 at the CRT North East office, at Fearns Wharf in Leeds (LS9 8PB).

  • Jonny Hart-Woods from the Canal and Rivers Trust will discuss Fish Passage and Wider Environmental Issues at the Tees Barrage
  • Martyn Kelly from Bowburn Consultancy will be talking on the Use of molecular barcodes for ecological assessment of freshwaters: a case study using diatoms
  • Chris Hassall from Leeds University will present on the Biodiversity and Ecology of Urban Ponds
