About this event
- Event lasts 4 hours
The Decatur Lunar New Year Festival is Atlanta’s first Pan-Asian New Year celebration, featuring the diverse customs of several different Asian countries, including Vietnam, South Korea, China, Thailand, Japan, and the Philippines. It will be held both indoors and outdoors at the Ebster Rec Center Courtyard and Gym.
Lunar New Year is about spending time with loved ones and engaging in traditions that bring good luck and health. Founded by Asian American families who have made their home in the City of Decatur, it is a chance to honor our diverse heritage and cultures and to celebrate the New Year with the greater Decatur community. We also hope to promote inclusivity and education in a safe environment.
2026 will be the Year of the Fire Horse, marking the 5th annual Decatur Lunar New Year Festival! This year's event will continue to grow, with the same expanded footprint that worked so well in 2025, featuring more space, performances on a center stage, and new additions to the festivities.
Since we will be celebrating on Sunday, March 1st, at the end of the Lunar New Year period, we will incorporate a special Lantern Festival across the courtyard. Festival-goers of all ages are encouraged to create and contribute lanterns to a collaborative display, marking the conclusion of the festive season in a beautiful and symbolic way.
There will be craft booths where kids of all ages can indulge their creativity. We'll have an Asian Artisans Marketplace for your shopping needs, and a variety of food vendors will offer tasty treats, many of which are considered good luck for the New Year. Last year's vendors included: Adobo ATL, Rebel Teahouse, Leftie Lee's, Baolicious, Sweet Melts, Barangay, The Bite of Korea, 7 Fingers Baked Goods, Crinkles by Nina, and Sweet Auburn BBQ.
The highlight of the festival will be the lion dance. We will also have more performances throughout the day on the main stage.
