About this event

This weekly event is for ukulele beginners who want to strum and sing in a relaxed and informal group setting. If you are new to musical instruments, this is a perfect opportunity to learn some practical skills quickly and in a supportive environment. if you don't have a ukulele, spare ukuleles can be reserved (leave a comment at the facebook event page: facebook.com/melbourneukulelecommunity). We meet weekly so do check Facebook for the "Theme of the Week" and for any last-minute updates. Please note that there are usually no sessions near school holidays / public holidays.

Typically, there are over 25 people at every session, and about half are beginners. If you are a complete beginner, please come, we will get you playing in no time :) There are several spare ukes if you don't have one yet. The most important part of the session is the first 30 minutes where we play some easy songs. The session is free-of-charge, but there is a donation box at the front if you want to contribute to our operational expenses. Thank you and hope to see you one day!

Frequently asked questions

Getting there by car?

It's peak hour traffic at that time so give yourself an extra 15 min to get there. Park along Rankins Road or Parsons Street (around the corner). If you park along Rankins Road outside the RSL, there is a 2-hour limit. But if you park one block further down Rankins Road, there is no time limit.

Getting there by train?

From the city, catch a Craigieburn Line train and get off at Newmarket Station (2 stops from North Melbourne). Exit the station, walk 100 metres to Racecourse Road. Head east (away from the station) along Racecourse Road for 250 metres. Then turn right into Rankins Rd. The RSL is at 25 Rankins Rd.

Getting there by tram?

From the city, take No. 57 tram (to West Maribyrnong). Get off at stop 25 (Wellington St & Racecourse Rd). Head east along Racecourse Rd and turn right into Rankins Road. The RSL is at 25 Rankins Rd.
