Kickback at The House – A 40+ Grown Folks Monthly Mixer

Looking for a vibe that feels like home, but with cocktails, conversation, and creative fun? Welcome to Kickback at The House—a monthly social gathering for the grown folks to connect, unwind, and just kick it.

Hosted inside The House of Photography Studio, this is your invite to come as you are, bring your favorite beverage, and vibe out with like-minded folks over 40 who enjoy good conversation, a chill atmosphere, and a few fun surprises along the way. 30-somethings, yes you can come too—just know this space is designed with the 40-plus crowd in mind, so come ready to vibe, connect, and kick it the grown folks way.

Each month we mix things up with:
• DIY Cocktail Bar (bring a bottle or mixer to contribute)
• Icebreakers and mini games sprinkled throughout the space
• Fun debates like “This or That” and “Battle of the Sexes”
• Creative grown folks games and interactive challenges
• Surprise pop-up experiences and prize giveaways
• Space to connect with old friends and make new ones

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to be 40 or older to attend?

Nope! While this event is curated with the 40+ crowd in mind, 30-somethings are welcome too. Just know the vibe is grown, laid-back, and rooted in real conversation and connection.

Is there a cost to attend?

Admission is FREE. All we ask is that you bring a bottle, mixer, or beverage of your choice to contribute to the DIY bar. That’s your entry. Just bring a good spirit and be in good spirits.

What should I wear?

The dress code is comfy and cute. Come relaxed, be yourself, and wear something you feel good in. This is not a fashion show, it’s a chill vibe.

Can I come alone?

Absolutely. A lot of people come solo and leave with new friends. This is a space where everyone is welcome and it’s easy to connect. You won’t feel left out—we promise. When you shop up at our house you are family. So you are just kicking it with kinfolks!

What kind of activities happen during the event?

Every Kickback is a little different, but you can expect fun icebreakers, grown folks games, signature drink tastings, and conversations that get you thinking and laughing. Some events may include pop-up challenges, giveaways, or even surprise photo opportunities.

Do I have to answer questions or participate in the activities?

Not at all. You can engage as much or as little as you want. If you just want to sip, vibe, and observe, that’s perfectly fine. This is a no-pressure zone. Jump in when you feel ready.

Will food be available?

Yes, we usually have food available for purchase from local chefs or vendors. Trust, it’s always something delicious. Come hungry or eat before—it’s totally up to you. If you have a special diet, definitely bring your own food or eat in advance or at any Stony Point Resteraunt.

Can I bring more than one bottle or mixer?

Yes, but you only need to bring one to enter. If you want to be extra and bring more, we love that for you, but it’s not required.

Where is the studio located exactly?

The event takes place at The House of Photography inside Stony Point Fashion Park in Richmond, VA. People often pass by it because they think it's furniture store. The specific directions and suite number is included in the event details.

Can I invite someone who’s never been before?

Yes, please do! Just make sure they RSVP and know the vibe. This is for folks who are looking to connect, relax, and have a good time—grown-folks style. Men, women, any relationship status and ethnicity. All are welcome!

If I bring a bottle, do I take it back home with me?

Nope—if you bring it to The House, it stays at The House. The idea is to help stock our monthly DIY bar so we always have a little starter for the next event. Trust, it all comes back full circle plus that's lowkey tacky.

Is there a drink limit or policy I should know about?

Please drink responsibly. This is a grown folks space, so act accordingly. We’re not responsible or liable for anyone’s behavior or decisions during or after the event. Know your limits, take care of yourself, and get home safe.

What if I spill something or accidentally damage something at the studio?

We get it, things happen. But please let us know immediately if you spill anything or notice a stain or mess. We want to treat those areas quickly to protect our space since it is still an active photography studio and business. Think of this House as your home too. If you spill it, clean it.

Is there a code of conduct or vibe we should know about?

Yes. This is a respectful, non-judgmental space where everyone should feel safe and welcomed. We don’t tolerate negativity, rude behavior, or anything that disrupts the energy we’re trying to build. Be kind, be cool, and come with good intentions.

Are photos or videos taken during the event?

Yes, we do record content and take photos to highlight the experience on social media. Only positive sound bites or no sound at all will be used in reels or stories. If you’re camera shy, just let us know—we got you.
