Shanshula: film screening and in-conversation with Musheir El Farra
Free event with a collection for Musheir's charity working in Gaza.
Abergavenny Palestine Solidarity Campaign proudly presents Shanshula, a documentary film about the fishing community of Gaza followed by a discussion with the filmmaker Musheir El Farra.
Shanshula details the lives of the Palestinian fishing community in the Gaza Strip who have lost loved ones, have been displaced or disabled by Israeli navy aggression.
Shanshula is a type of fishing net in the slang of local Palestinian fishermen who confront daily humiliations. The film also tells the story of one of the few Palestinian fisherwomen in the Gaza Strip.
The film was about to be premiered in Gaza in early October 2023. Following the Israeli onslaught, an addition was made to the film to show the forceful evacuation of the fishing community from the north to the south of the Gaza Strip and the suffering of the Palestinian people under the Israeli genocidal attack. Shanshula was produced in cooperation between Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign and a local media organisation providing training for youngsters called the Palestinian Vanguard Station which was bombed and destroyed by Israeli F16s in Jan 2024.
