About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Salem is where people visit to learn about the 1692 witchcraft trials, but Salem Village (present-day Danvers) is where it first began, and where many of the leading figures of the Witch-Hunt lived. It is where the Devil was allegedly raised, where people claimed to see specters of accused witches hurting them, and where Villagers turned against their neighbors because of the fear that some amongst them were in league with the Devil. Walk the grounds of old Salem Village where the Puritans lived, worked and prayed. Visit several significant historical sites related to the witch-hunt

Where to park?

PARKING: Parking is available on Ingersoll Street and Prince Place. Ingersoll Street is next to the Training Field. If you park on Prince Place, you will need to walk up to Centre Street and take a right. The Training Field is just 100 yards away. Alternatively, you can park at the Highlands School

There are no public restrooms along this route. Please plan accordingly.

Where does the tour go?

TOUR ROUTE: The tour route will start at the training field and will end at the church at the corner of Hobart and Centre Streets. We do not go into any buildings or homes. The tour is completely outdoors.

What should we wear?

Please wear comfortable shoes and check the weather for appropriate clothing to wear. Most of the tour is on the sidewalks in the neighborhood.

What if the weather is bad?

Our tours run rain or shine,. We only cancel if the governor issues a State of Emergency. Watch the weather and prepare accordingly. Keep in mind that it may not be raining in Danver if it is raining in Boston, Cape Cod or NH. Salem's weather pattern is different (or it's the witches protecting us).

How easy are the tours to navigate?

Our tours can pose challenges for participants with mobility and accessibility concerns. Each participant must be able to complete the one-mile tour in 90 minutes. Danvers has some narrow and uneven sidewalks. The path to the parsonage is flagstone covered with tree roots. It is medium difficulty.
