PaleoFest is a weekend-long celebration of paleontology at the Burpee Museum of Natural History in Rockford, Illinois. The event features educational programs, workshops, and lectures from paleontologists. 

What Happens?

  • Talks: Paleontologists from around the world share their research and studies 
  • Workshops: Kids and adults can participate in workshops on topics like trilobites and ceratopsians 
  • Art demonstrations: Visitors can learn about paleontology through art demonstrations 
  • PopUp Exhibits & Games: Guests can view one-day only exhibit stations that focus on different aspects of paleontology 
  • Exhibit halls: Visitors can explore the museum's exhibit halls

What Ticket Packages are available?

There are multiple packages for individuals and families wanting to engage with beginning level paleontology as well as packages for students and researchers wanting to witness research talks about ongoing research. Details are at https://burpee.org/paleofest/

What are Research Lectures?

Burpee brings top paleontology researchers from Universities, Museums, and Federal Programs such as the BLM to share their work in a consumable way for enthusiasts without professional training, students, and other researchers. Expect engaging 20 min sessions with each speaker including Q&A

What are Workshops?

Designed for beginning and intermediate level paleontology lovers, these family friendly workshops dive deeper into a specific topics in paleo in a classroom setting. Attendees learn from Burpee Staff and complete an activity to make something to bring home. Great for all ages!

How can I save $$$?

Will there be food at the event?

YES! Rusty Drum will be offering food for purchase in the Mahlberg Auditorium. Burpee also has snack and drink vending machines.

What about parking?

The Burpee Parking lot fills up fast. Consider parking at Museum Campus lot(just before Burpee on Main Street) and using the underground tunnel to Burpee OR parking at any of our nearby associated lots (marked with MUSEUM PARKING signs). All parking is FREE.
