Frequently asked questions

I've never danced social Argentine Tango, can I come?

Absolutely yes! This is a great class and setting to join people brand new to Tango looking to dance, connect and experiment.

Who is the teacher?

I'm Martha. I've been studying and dancing Argentine Tango for 7 years. I started out by learning both roles with my first teacher, Daniel Trenner, at university. I teach weekly at Soho School of Burlesque on Wednesdays 7pm-10pm for Amistoso Tango School. I've danced in New York, Boston and London.

Do I need special shoes?

No - just a pair of socks! If you have Tango shoes and wNo - just a pair of socks! If you have Tango shoes and want to bring them, please do.

Do I need a partner?

No need to come with a dance partner. You can register solo but feel free to bring a friend or dance partner. Everyone will get to dance with everyone.

Do I have to learn both roles?

I will facilitate learning both how to lead and follow as learning both roles makes us more connected, empathetic, skilled dancers. The vocabulary of Argentine Tango is shared across both roles and it's both beneficial and fun to explore both roles, even if you only intend to dance one at milongas!

What is a practica?

A practica is a Tango dance space in which people can practice dancing tango for fun and to practice new material, steps and dancing with each other.

What is a milonga?

A Tango milonga is a dance event where people dress up and attend to dance Tango as well as socialise over food and drinks. There are many milongas in London. Often before a milonga there are classes you can attend - check them out!
