Chimera is Sonoma County's first non-profit community arts and makerspace, located in downtown Sebastopol at the old Ford Garage building across from The Barlow. We're a community of makers, artists, engineers and creatives of all types who love to share, learn and work together.We are located in a 3,000 sq.ft. facility with 4,000 sq.ft. exterior space at6791 Sebastopol Ave. Suite #180in downtown Sebastopol, California.Our facility includes space and tools for electronics, jewelry, 3D printing, laser cutting, metalworking, welding, crafts/textiles, woodworking and more!

This 2 day session gives you staff-guided and safe access to our lost wax casting facility.

Chimera Arts and Maker Space

Join us for 2 nights March 3-4, 6-9pm to put your casting knowledge to work in our community casting session. It is designed to be one evening of wax work, with a knowledgeable staff member present to answer questions, followed by an evening of metal pouring and finishing the next day. Open Casting Sessions will be offered once a month and allow participants one flask to cast. Additional flasks will be $20 , payable to the instructor.This is not a class, but rather a time in the studio with guidance to prepare a flask for casting and to cast it the following day. For safety reasons, Chimera staff will invest the flasks, load the kiln and coordinate the metal pouring.To be eligible to participate, you must have taken a lost wax casting class, such as our “Production Casting” class.Your flask must be ready to invest and metal needs to be weighed by 9pm of the first night. If your flask is not ready for casting, but you have paid for your session, it can be rolled over to the next month. You are not required to be present for casting day, but we must be provided with your metal and your own crucible before we load your flask in the kiln.What’s Included:<ul><li>Wax for injecting and for building trees</li><li>Investment materials and access to a kiln.</li><li>All necessary tools and safety equipment.</li></ul>What to Bring:<ul><li>Your own jewelry molds/wax projects</li><li>Closed-toed shoes</li><li>Magnifiers (if needed)</li><li>An apron</li><li>Your own crucible (can be purchased from Chimera Jewelry Department for $40)</li><li>Enough metal for casting your entire tree (bring day one)</li></ul>Cancellation Policy: Attendees must register for classes or request cancellations/refunds 7 days in advance.
