About this event

Join us for an open house and talk at the William Landsberg home in Port Washington, Long Island, renovated and restored by Stephen Moser Architects. The 1951 house was designed by and for Landsberg, who studied at Harvard University with Marcel Breuer and later worked for him. In 1956, Landsberg established his own architecture practice, gaining regional fame for his Bauhaus-inspired designs.

The architect’s challenge was to take a beautiful piece of mid-century modern architecture and to respectfully but creatively integrate the design elements of a contemporary Japanese-American lifestyle. The centerpiece of the renovation was the reconfiguration of the kitchen in the middle of the house. Henrybuilt collaborated with SMA and the clients to create a contemporary kitchen in the spirit of Landsberg’s original design, while updating it for modern-day performance and embracing the clients Japanese-style cooking and serving.

Stephen Moser Architects(SMA) is an architecture and design studio based in New York City with a portfolio of innovative residences, civic-private projects, and ideas-generating competitions. Their work can be found in Colorado, Connecticut, Long Island, NYC, and Westchester County. The focus in all their projects is on making beautiful, coherent spaces that respond to the uniqueness of place and reflect how people live and work. They seek a clarity of vision: a relationship between exterior and interior that values simplicity, coherency, and openness.

Henrybuilt was founded in 2001 to bring a new level of aesthetic, functional, and craft integrity to the areas of a home that are most central to living by creating a uniquely high-touch experience - often starting with the kitchen, but increasingly including almost every room in the home. Julianna Morais, Henrybuilt's VP of design, leads their team of architects who design over 300 projects a year throughout North America and abroad. Julianna practiced with Frank Gehry and Partners and was the editor of several publications with Thom Mayne of Morphosis Architecture.

Henrybuilt was founded in 2001 to bring a new level of aesthetic, functional, and craft integrity to the areas of a home that are most central to the living experience. We focus on creating a uniquely high-touch experience - often starting with the kitchen, but increasingly including almost every room in the home. The foundation is a flexible family of highly refined products, which we carefully design, engineer, and then tailor into each individual situation. Having won more than 50 international design awards, we operate design studios and offices in New York and the Bay Area, and a design, engineering and manufacturing facility in Seattle. From these locations, Henrybuilt has completed more than 4,500 major projects for clients throughout North America, Europe. and Asia. Henrybuilt's Bay Area studio highlights our design work in a 4000 square foot renovated auto garage in Mill Valley.
