Saturday Morning Breakouts

“Gospel Comfort for Caregivers”

Elizabeth Turnage ( www.elizabethturnage.com ) has authored The Waiting Room: 60 Meditations for Finding Peace and Hope in a Health Crisis and From Recovery to Restoration. In this breakout, she will explore how caregiving, a calling to love which can take us on a path of surprising joy, also presents numerous challenges. The caregiver often experiences drastic lifestyle changes, unforeseen losses, and emotional and physical exhaustion, among other trials. In this interactive workshop, discover comfort for the caregiver:

  • Discover how Jesus cares deeply for the caregiver and brings peace and hope into the hard season.
  • Discover ways to recognize and process the grief and loss you experience.
  • Discover how to deal practically with the chronic stress that comes with caregiving.
  • Discover why it’s crucial to care well for your own health even as you care for another’s.

You will leave equipped with tools as well as renewed hope for the challenges of caregiving.

"Momma's Sick - What Do We Do Now? Practical Tips for Caregiving at the End"

Gary and Jerri Herring have cared for 9 family members over the course of 40 years. They will share their experiences and lessons they learned the hard way. They will address what to do before "Momma gets sick," important documents to have, setting boundaries, finances, hospice, and more.

“Christian Approach to Medical Technology: Ventilators, Feeding Tubes, and How to Think Through Other Technologies”

When a loved one becomes critically ill, we often find ourselves facing an array of medical equipment and technologies we've never thought about before.  In this breakout session, Dr. Abraham will walk us through different types of advanced medical equipment and their uses, as well as help us think through strategies for making sound health care decisions at crucial moments.
