Film Screening "Common Ground" at Vista Brewing

Join us at Vista Brewing on Saturday, March 1st for a very special outdoor screening of the film Common Ground followed by a panel discussion on regenerative agriculture in Central Texas.

From the filmmakers of Kiss the Ground (Netflix) comes the follow-up documentary Common Ground, winner of the Tribeca Film Festival. See actors and activists Laura Dern, Rosario Dawson, Jason Momoa, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, and Ian Somerhalder tell a story of our food system.

Vista has always had a special place in our hearts for supporting sustainable initiatives. We are excited to share this film with you in the setting of our Driftwood ranch alongside our local partners Driftwood Historical Conservation Society, Elder Hill Farms and Songland Farms to join us for this documentary screening and panel discussion.

COMMON GROUND

Common Ground is the highly anticipated sequel to the juggernaut success documentary, Kiss the Ground, which touched over 1 billion people globally and inspired the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to put $20 billion toward soil health. By fusing journalistic expose’ with deeply personal stories from those on the front lines of the food movement, Common Ground unveils a dark web of money, power, and politics behind our broken food system. The film reveals how unjust practices forged our current farm system in which farmers of all colors are literally dying to feed us. The film profiles a hopeful and uplifting movement of white, black, and indigenous farmers who are using alternative “regenerative” models of agriculture that could balance the climate, save our health, and stabilize America’s economy – before it’s too late.

ABOUT ELDER HILL FARMS

Never would we ever have picked our plot of land in Driftwood, Texas, for agriculture. But that’s exactly what’s been fostered here. How did our rocky outcrop of Hill Country become chock full of life and animals? We listened.

What started as a simple garden has become a terraced grazing area for livestock: cows, heritage pigs, sheep, ducks and turkeys. We celebrate nature and the challenging climate of Central Texas by adapting to changes and incorporating water saving techniques such as aquaponics (which utilizes 90% less water than traditional agriculture) and keyline design- restructuring the way rain water travels through the land- slowing it down and allowing it to soak into the soil instead of it running off and further eroding the landscape.

ABOUT SONGLAND FARMS

Songland Farms is a small scale, no-till farm rooted in sustainable practices that aid in building organic matter and biodiversity in our soil. No-till is an agricultural technique that decreases the amount of soil erosion by not disturbing the soil through tillage.This can also help plants absorb more water, increase crop yields and more.
