ECHO: Reflections on the Struggle for Absolute Equality

Experience the next level of the "Full Circle Mural- Juneteenth" mural up close and personal!

* A Transformative Outdoor Gallery Experience *

As part of the 2023 multi-city 'Absolute Equality' Mural Project, the Germantown ArtHaus introduced Philadelphia's 1st Juneteenth mural to Germantown. ArtHaus Founder and Lead Artist, Keisha Whatley shared the story behind each of the three levels of the mural as it stands today:

  • from Pre-Colonial West Africa,
  • through the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, and
  • Juneteenth

... She also shared a hint; that there are two more "levels" to this story...

TRANSFORMING TRAGEDY & THE STRUGGLE FOR ABSOLUTE EQUALITY

Since May of 2021, four Community Artists have grappled with a creative challenge:

Create a piece of artwork (painted, 3-D relief, etc.) that honors the life of a victim of police brutality or gun violence AND points to a future where we need not create a mural like this ever again.

... and "ECHO: Reflections on the Struggle for Absolute Equality" was born! This outdoor walking art installation gives attendees an up-close-and-personal look at each of the four artworks before they are installed as the fourth level of the Germantown ArtHaus mural!

Join us at Holman Field for a one-of-a-kind outdoor walking gallery exhibit! Get ready to be amazed, touched and transformed by the stunning creativity of four amazing artists. Each artist's installation will include their 5x5 ft artwork, decor and an interactive experience for attendees!

Stunning outdoor installations will ignite your senses and spark your imagination. ECHO is not a normal event; it's an experience that will leave you mesmerized and transformed.

Enter Holman Field from Cherokee St or Washington Ln and prepare to be transported to a world where art meets nature in the most magical way. Don't miss out on this opportunity to immerse yourself in creativity and beauty!

SAVE THE DATE: Looking forward, we are planning a festive mural Dedication event for Saturday, November 2nd where you'll have an opportunity to see how this level fits into the grand story we are telling on Germantown Avenue!
