Compton Creek Clean-up and Nature Hunt

Spend the morning with experts from the Natural History Museum of L.A. County and Heal the Bay at Compton Creek as we explore this unique and often overlooked wilderness area. Compton Creek is the last major tributary to enter the L.A. River before it empties into the Pacific Ocean. Similar to the L.A. River, Compton Creek is mostly lined with concrete but it also has a natural soft-bottom section where plants are able to thrive, creating habitat for a rich variety of wildlife species.

We will host a variety of nature-themed activities to accommodate different ages and interest levels, including tables with specimens where you can meet scientists in addition to an hour-long guided nature survey and clean-up effort. Scientists and educators will be on hand to answer wildlife questions and guide you during the wildlife search. Participants will learn about a variety of local plants and animals, where to search for them, and even how to photograph them in the name of science.

After the activities, we will gather to share our observations over complimentary pizza and refreshments.
