About the book:

National Book Award-winner and #1 New York Times bestselling author, Sabaa Tahir, returns to her fantasy roots with HEIR, an action-packed, ruthless, and romantic new fantasy that masterfully interweaves the lives of three young people: an orphan seeking revenge, an outcast in search of a new life, and a prince in exile, as they grapple with the burdens of power, the treachery of love and the devastating consequences of unchecked greed. Set in the world of Tahir’s beloved Ember Quartet, HEIR introduces readers to a separate storyline with a new generation of characters, however, fans of the original series may recognize a few familiar faces.

About the author:

SABAA TAHIR is a former newspaper editor who grew up in California’s Mojave Desert at her family’s eighteen-room motel. There, she spent her time devouring fantasy novels, listening to thunderous indie rock, and playing guitar and piano badly. Her #1 New York Times bestselling An Ember in the Ashes series has been translated into more than thirty-five languages, and the first book in the series was named one of TIME’s 100 Best Young Adult Books of All Time. Tahir’s most recent novel, All My Rage, won the National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, the Michael L. Printz Award, the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for Fiction and Poetry, and was an instant New York Times bestseller.

Frequently asked questions

How do your events work?

For most events, we will begin with an introduction at the start time, followed by a reading or moderated author conversation, an audience Q&A, and finally our book signing portion of the event. However, please check the Eventbrite details for each event for further information.

Does my (partner/child/guardian) need a ticket?

For in-store ticketed events that ARE NOT sold out, your +`1 may attend the talk/Q&A and wait in the signing line with you, though they will not be able to get a book signed themselves. For sold out events, each attendee MUST have a ticket.

Where are you located?

MOST of our events take place at our store at 603 N Lamar Blvd. However, please make sure you check the location for each event, as some events are put on in conjunction with outside venue partners. Please note that our events program is not affiliated with the BookPeople at the AUS airport.

Where do I go when I arrive?

For in-store ticketed events, a staff member will be waiting near the front entrance to check you in and provide you with your event book and signing line wristband. Please have your QR code ready upon arrival. After check-in, you will proceed to the 2nd floor of the store.

What if I already own a copy of the event book?

If the event is in-store and NOT sold out, you may attend the talk/Q&A regardless and make a purchase of equal value on-site in order to join the signing line. Please be prepared to show your receipt upon joining. For sold out events, you MUST have a ticket to attend.

What if I already preordered the book from BookPeople?

For in-store ticketed events, if you preordered BEFORE the event was announced, please contact us at online@bookpeople.com. If the event is sold out and you did not preorder before the date the event was posted, we must prioritize customers with Eventbrite tickets.

What if the event is "sold out"?

If we have a waitlist available, Eventbrite will give you an option to join it on the ticket purchase or RSVP page. If the event is sold out AND the waitlist option is unavailable, the waitlist has unfortunately met its cap and we are not accepting further names in an effort to avoid false hope.

What if I can't attend?

We ask that you submit a refund request via Eventbrite 7+ days in advance. You may also keep your ticket and pick up your book at the registers within 30 days of the event. If you know that you cannot attend before purchasing, please place a preorder via bookpeople.com and not via Eventbrite.

Can I order a book to be signed and shipped to me?

Please place an order for the event book via bookpeople.com at least 24 hours before the event and make your request in the order notes field at checkout. Our events and Internet Orders teams will do their best to fulfill your request, if at all possible.
