Morning Session 8:30-10:00

As an arrival technology in education that became publicly available in November of 2022, text generative AI left educators and schools little time to prepare for the impact it would have on education. The first workshop in this three part series is designed to help educators both deepen their understanding and awareness of generative AI. We will shift between and balance both a thirty thousand foot, conceptual view of AI, while also recognizing both the opportunities and challenges that AI presents for classrooms by touching our keyboards and manipulating text generative AI tools. Additionally, we will establish a core framework and language that educators can adopt to facilitate meaningful discussion, decision making, and guidelines. Through the lens of “AI Dilemmas” we can use specific language to explore AI that will empower educators to have informed and thoughtful discussions. By pairing both conceptual and practical approaches to AI, session participants will increase their comfort and awareness to ideally become curious skeptics of the role AI may play in education.

Mid Day Session 10:00-12:00

With a foundational understanding of AI and the experience of interacting with text generative AI platforms, the second workshop is designed to emphasize the technical skill set and creative approaches to using text generative AI platforms. Through a combination of text generative AI prompt examples and various text generative AI platforms, educators will be equipped to carefully leverage AI to play a role in their professional work. Additionally, we will explore the potential of student facing AI tools that can assist students in specific academic experiences.

Through three key lenses: educator productivity, classroom experience co-design, and student use, the second workshop will enhance awareness of both the capacity of AI when leveraged in meaningful ways, as well as concrete examples of AI use in the hands of students.

LUNCH BREAK 12:00

Afternoon Session 12:30-2:30

With a solid foundation of conceptual frameworks and language, along with improved technical capacity for manipulating and integrating AI into educational settings, course participants are poised to move forward and thoughtfully lead with a carefully crafted approach to AI in their classroom. The third workshop will help educators design a plan and path to move forward in their classroom with meaningful classroom integration. With student facing AI platforms emerging and educators exploring the potential for classroom use, the third workshop will help educators grapple with the prospect and redesign of classroom experiences that integrate generative AI.
