What should I wear to the free clinic session?

Accepted Answer

Wear comfortable clothes and non-marking shoes such as sneakers. No heels, please. Rug up, there is no heating on the court. There is nowhere to stash valuables so bring only valuables that you can keep in your pockets while you play.

Question 2

What should I wear to watch a game of tennis?

Accepted Answer

Wear comfortable clothes. Unless you want to dress up as a spectator from any time, place or dimension. In which case, go for it. Rug up though, there is no heating on the court and the galleries can get chilly.

Question 3

I can't figure out how to buy tickets

Accepted Answer

Tickets are sold separately for each event. To book your tickets, navigate to the dates in the above calendar, and select the appropriate time. The demonstration matches are on at 10am and 2pm, clinics are on at 11:30am, 3:30pm & 4:30pm. If still stuck call the club at 03 5333 5755.

I really want to try real tennis but I'm not available on Saturday the 17th

Question 5

Is there any etiquette I should be aware of when watching real tennis?

Accepted Answer

There are a number of rules and customs which have evolved over the long history of tennis. When watching a match, it is customary not to shout or exclaim during a rally (which in real tennis we call a 'reste'). But when the point is played you are allowed to make rousing comments.

Question 6

Is real tennis like normal tennis?

Accepted Answer

In real tennis we call normal tennis 'lawn tennis'. The two types of tennis are related, but also very different. There is a net like in lawn tennis, there are points scored like lawn tennis, but real tennis is radically divergent, far too much so to explain here. Come along and watch instead.

Is there food or drink available?

Accepted Answer

We don't have the capacity to offer food, beverages or alcohol. Water will be available. Feel free to bring a thermos, bottled water, keep-cups or snacks.  There are cafes and food outlets not far away on Main Road and there is a bistro in the Mercure complex, which the tennis club is part of.

Question 8

I'm in a wheelchair, how do I get there?

Accepted Answer

There is wheelchair access via the Mercure Hotel main entrance on Main Road. The tennis club is next door to the Sanctuary Day Spa. Follow the signs to the Spa or to the Ballarat Tennis Club. Note, we do not have disabled access toilets at the club. For more info contact the club on 03 5333 5755

Question 9

I'm not interested in a costume exhibition, but I would like to watch a real match played

Accepted Answer

You would be welcome to watch a real real tennis match. There are regular competitions held at the club on weekdays, weekends, and weeknights. If you want to visit and see how the game is actually played today, contact the tennis professional: 03 5333 5755 pro@ballarattennisclub.com.au .
