@IndeedEng is a technical speaker series that we host in our engineering offices around the world. Building successful large-scale consumer applications takes smart, passionate people with a variety of backgrounds and expertise. Our goal is to bring together local tech communities to discuss the challenges of developing great products.In this ongoing series, Indeed will be sharing our real-world building a site that supports 200 million job seekers in over 60 countries performing billions of searches each month.

If you want to build a team of innovators within a company, you need to become an expert at building quickly — and shuttering just as fast. Join Indeed Incubator's director of Engineering as he walks you through the process of creating a subculture of innovation in a multi-billion dollar company. Fostering innovation involves being open to learning from mistakes as well as successes, and this talk will cover both. Learn how to build an innovation team that can more than pay for itself and dramatically change the direction of your company. 
 
Stretching Yourself With Hackathon Projects
What can you do if you stretch beyond what you think your capabilities are? What does stretching do for your goals, your career and your team? Micah will share how he and his team stretched beyond what they thought they were capable of to innovate and reach a common goal at a recent Hackathon.
 
Break Things Faster! (But Not in Prod)
The Indeed Money teams work diligently to ensure that no major bugs escape to production, so rigorous QA practices are essential. If a team lacks a dedicated QA automation engineer, or new feature work outpaces automation coverage, then more work shifts to manual QA. This can slow a team down. Learn how automated regression testing helps our Money teams move faster, without breaking our financial systems.
 
About the Speakers
 
RC Johnson
RC has been managing software engineering teams for 10+ years. Currently, RC is the director of engineering for Indeed Incubator. An internal program that researches and develops new product ideas Incubator operates like a venture capital environment. Presently, Incubator is growing over a dozen innovative products that help people find jobs. Before Indeed, RC was a manager at Bazaarvoice and built their NYC office from 0 to 60+ people. As director of engineering at WP Engine, he helped grow the team from 15 to 50+ and dramatically improved the reliability of 10k+ customers' WordPress sites. Personally, RC enjoys coffee and a good book, watching baseball or a movie, and spending time with his wife and four kids. 
 
Micah Barwick
Micah Barwick is a QA automation engineer at Indeed with 19 years of experience in software testing. He is passionate about improving the quality of software through advocacy, coding, and group think. He divides his free time between Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, traveling, reading, and cooking.
 
Christine Mecklenborg
Christine Mecklenborg is a senior QA automation engineer on the Indeed Payments team. When not working on automation for her own and adjacent product teams, she helps maintain Indeed’s automation infrastructure and beta tests new libraries and automation innovations. Christine also enjoys good books, bad movies, playing tabletop RPGs, and building epic lego structures with her two boys.
