Do you believe data analytics can improve the lives of people in Charlotte? Show us how, at the Queen City's Data Science and Machine Learning Hackathon. 
We have some exciting new additions this year including Amazon's Deep Racer competition, as well as a Mini-Career Fair during registration.

The Goal
Charlotte is an awesome city to live in, but like every city, it comes with challenges- skyrocketing housing prices, a lack of economic mobility, rush-hour gridlock, rising crime rates, and more. We believe Charlotte's robust tech community can help lead the effort to improve life in the city by using data science and machine learning. This Hackathon is open to all! We will have data science and engineering mentors on-hand to lend advice to teams. What You’ll Do

FAQs
 Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
There is no age minimum for the event, please bring your ID and the QR code that we will send out before the event to check in once your get here.
 What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
There is plenty of parking on our campus, once you arrive please follow the signs directing you to the parking deck and a walkway to the event. You can also leverage rideshare companies with a designated drop off area that is near the parking deck. Follow the same event parking signs. 
 What can I bring into the event?
Please bring a laptop, any charging cables you may need, comfortable clothes, as well as any additional snacks/drinks you'd like to have. (We will have snacks and drinks on hand as well) 
What items are prohibited at the event?
The following items are prohibited from this event: alcohol, weapons, and offensive/political clothing. Additionally, smoking and use of tobacco products within the building is prohibited, but there are designated areas outside. 
I don't know how to code, Can I join in the fun?
Yes! Our competition is open to all skills levels - we have 3 tracks that you can test your knowledge and learn something new. We encourage anyone interested in data analytics, and passionate about improving Charlotte to attend. 
I can't stay the whole 24 hours, can I still participate?
Of course! We realize that 24 hours is a long time and people may need to attend to other commitments, or just shower and sleep! We do, however, strongly encourage you to be present for the first few hours of the hackathon to see the idea pitches, as well as the final few hours for the presentations and judging. Note that you need to be physically present to qualify for the late night raffle prizes that will be handed out during the hackathon.
 How big can my team be?
Teams can be anywhere from one to five members. All members must register and RSVP for the event.
 Can I get a head start on my hack?
To ensure a level playing field for all participants, all code and assets must be created during the hackathon. Failure to comply with this rule may result in the offending team's disqualification. You are, however, free to make plans, create wireframes, and brainstorm prior to the event.
 Can I use external APIs, services and SDKs?
You are encouraged to use any 3rd party services, APIs, open source projects, libraries, and frameworks as long as they are publicly available on the web.
What are the demos like?
You'll have 10 minutes to pitch to a panel of judges. You'll be provided with A/V support, a microphone, and a projector. Judges will evaluate your hack based on level of completion, novelty of the idea, and how well it adheres to the theme of the hackathon.
