<h1>BRITEhack is: </h1><p>an energy-focused civic hackathon,</p><p>a challenge to solve an issue using technology and your unique experiences,</p><p>an opportunity to create a meaningful impact in the community,</p><p>your chance to brainstorm with like-minded individuals, have fun and win a prize!</p><h2>What is a Hackathon?</h2><p>Hackathons are an efficient, low risk, low cost way to encourage innovation, catalyze startups and engage talent. They present the perfect opportunity to foster innovation in the smart energy sector and initiate positive change in the community.</p><h2>Who Should Join BRITEhack?</h2><p>Anyone with an idea, a solution or a desire to creat a positive impact is welcome to join us. We strongly encourage any interested engineers, designers, developers, project managers and students to participate in BRITEhack.</p><h2>The Timeline</h2><p>Registration Closes: January 22nd </p><p>Team Formation: January 24th  </p><p>BRITEhack: January 31st  - 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM</p><h2>The Process</h2><p>When you register you will select the challenge that interests you the most. Based on the challenge you select and your skillset, your team will be created to give you the greatest chance of success and help you meet new people! Before BRITEhack starts, you will get the chance to connect with your teammates, share ideas and conduct your own research. You <strong>must attend the webinar</strong> on January 28th to participate in BRITEhack. </p><p>On the day of the event you will get breakfast and meet your team, tour the challenge facility, eat lunch and work with your team to finalize your proposal. When proposals are finished at the end of the day, there will be a cash bar while teams pitch their ideas to the mentors. The solution selected by the mentors as the best answer to each challenge may get implemented. Each of the teams who create these winning solutions will be awarded a $1,000 prize.</p><h2>The Challenges</h2><p>Use your knowledge to create a recommendation or solution for one of our two challenges:</p><p>1. Warren’s St. Joseph’s Hospital is burdened by the challenge of energy costs, reliability and disruption. Find creative solutions for the hospital to reduce reliance on the grid and optimize efficiency. </p><p>2. The Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority incurs large expenses from burst pipes when residents move out without notifying TMHA. Design a sensor that can determine occupancy status across a variety of property types.</p><p></p>
