Girls For Technology is a 501c3 nonprofit, and we work hard at combating racial & gender biases that exist in STEM fields. Our focus is improving our community by creating access to innovative educational opportunities for under-served, underrepresented girls to attend college and be better prepared to be leaders in Technology and Engineering industries. We create those college preparedness and job readiness skills by introducing girls to particular STEM skills through our programs.

Infosys - Hartford Tech & Innovation Hub

Calling all youth in 8th-12th grade in the Greater Hartford region! Join us for a two day program built to spark students creativity and build something that improves the lives of others! A hackathon is an event where individuals come together to code and &quot;hack&quot; a technical project. During SparkHartCT students will be hacking chatbots that benefit a social justice issue. Use your competitive and innovative spirit to create a potentially award-winning project that could make an impact on others- powered by free food and the chance to win prizes! ***NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE NECCESARY*****What is SparkHartCT? During SparkHartCT, youth will have the opportunity to work together in teams and embark on a technology challenge by creating a chatbot that will not only tap their creativity and critical thinking skills, but also provide an opportunity for them to compete with others.Teams will be formed and have the benefit of mentorship advice from professional software developers, and professional as youth attempt to solve problems and create new ideas.Youth will have 19 hours to complete their projects over the course of 2-days. The final day judges evaluate their work. Teams will be judged on creativity, teamwork, technical difficulty and skill. An awards ceremony with youth, parents, community and Infosys employees and the foundation will take place Sunday, December15th at the Infosys Hartford Innovation Hub. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided. Plus tons of snacks! Students can expect prizes, awards, and lots of swag! What are the four challenge areas? Build: City Planning (ex. Transportation, smart cities/urban planning) Educate: (ex. Truancy, bullying, ) Sustain: (ex. Eco Friendly Hartford, Green Technology, natural resources, transportation systems)Protect: (ex. Safe Hartford, police brutality, gun violence, domestic violence) When is SparkHartCT? December 14th and 15th Check-In is at 9:30 AM on both the 14th and 15th Release is 7:00 PM on December 14th and 6:00 PM on December 15th.
