<h2>Devon Energy Hackathon 2019 - #HauntedHack</h2><p></p><p>Please join us for the Devon Energy Hackathon. The event will focus on solving real problems experienced in the oil and gas sector related to drilling and unconventional completions. Teams, between two to five members, will work on a Devon-provided -or- bring-your-own problem.  On the final day, teams will give live demonstrations, science-fair-style.</p><p></p><h3>What is a hackathon? It sounds illegal.</h3><p></p><p>A hackathon is a problem-solving event where people from different disciplines get together to generate ideas and solutions to real-world problems. A hackathon involves creating software to implement these solutions.</p><p></p><h3>I&#x27;m not familiar with the oil and gas industry, so I won&#x27;t have good solutions to the problems. Why should I sign up?</h3><p></p><p>Often, the most creative solutions to problems come from a fresh perspective, or the adaptation of an adjacent industry practice. Don&#x27;t sell yourself short! You’ll be part of a team, and there will be subject matter experts on hand to explain the problems and answer any questions you have.</p><p></p><h3>I work for a competitor to Devon Energy. Can I still participate?</h3><p></p><p>Absolutely! Hackathons bring out the best ideas from everyone. The results from this event will be publicly shared, with the intent to spur innovation throughout the oil and gas industry.  In order to participate, teams must agree to post their source code and solutions to a public GitHub repository and release it under the MIT open-source license.</p><p></p><h3>When is the event?</h3><p></p><p>The event is Oct. 28 through Oct. 30 at Devon Energy Center, 333 W. Sheridan, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73102. See the FAQ for more information. Participants will need to arrange for their own overnight accommodations. Devon Energy Center will close the on-site portion of the hackathon at 5:00 p.m. Central time on Oct. 28 and 29.</p><p></p><h3>How do I sign up?</h3><p></p><p>Click the “Register” button to sign up. The event is limited to 20 teams. With the event being so close to Halloween we are encouraging teams to come up with spooky names!</p><p></p><p></p><p></p><h2>Hackathon FAQs</h2><p></p><h3>What is the schedule?</h3><p>Hacking will commence at Devon Energy Center, 333 West Sheridan, OKC, OK 73102 on the 2nd floor, Garden Wing</p><p></p><p>Monday, Oct. 28, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.</p><p>•	Check-in – DEC Garden wing</p><p>•	Opening keynote - Auditorium</p><p>•	Hacking begins - Multi-purpose rooms</p><p>•	Raffles throughout the day, must be present to win</p><p>•	Lunch provided - Multi-purpose rooms</p><p>•	Networking Happy Hour - VAST</p><p></p><p>Tuesday, Oct. 29, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.</p><p>•	Hacking continues - Multi-purpose rooms</p><p>•	Raffles throughout the day, must be present to win</p><p>•	Lunch provided - Multi-purpose rooms</p><p></p><p>Wednesday, Oct. 30, 8:00 a.m. start</p><p>•	6:00 a.m. hack submissions deadline - submit code to GitHub</p><p>•	Team presentations to audience – Multipurpose rooms</p><p>•	Audience Choice award and grand prize raffles throughout the morning, must be present to win</p><p></p><h3>Who can participate?</h3><p>Anyone can participate. Teams can be two to five people.  There are spaces for 100 total hackers.  Teams must agree to release the source code they create during the event into the public domain under the MIT license.  A Github location will be provided for the competition.</p><p></p><h3>Will there be prizes awarded?</h3><p>Yes, along with swag and periodic raffles.</p><p></p><h3>What are the project topics?</h3><p>Devon Energy will provide a topic related to real-world problems in oil and gas drilling, completions, and production. Teams are also encouraged to bring their own problems. The provided problem statement and data will be released shortly before the event. Devon subject matter experts will provide background to the provided problem on the first day of the hackathon.</p><p></p><h3>What should I bring?</h3><p>Laptop and charger along with any additional hardware you may want to use in your hack. Microsoft will provide Azure credit to optionally create any desired cloud infrastructure.</p><p></p><h3>Will there be a place to sleep?</h3><p>No. The Devon Energy Center Garden wing will close the on-site portion of the hackathon at 5:00 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 29. Participants are welcome to continue coding after hours, but will need to arrange a location outside of Devon Energy Center.
