The NYU MakerSpace is a cutting edge lab aiming to foster projects at the intersection of technology, creativity and innovation. It features rapid prototyping and PCB production equipment, as well as advanced machining and testing capabilities. The MakerSpace hosts the Design Lab which provides NYU students with opportunities to ideate, experiment, prototype, and build their ideas.

How do you change human behavior to make real change in the fight against climate change?

**This event is only open to NYU students.** *The $20 deposit is refundable upon attendance of both days of the hackathon.*The <a href="https://hackathon.mtpga.earth/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">NYU x Make the Planet Great Again Hackathon</a> is a unique opportunity for students to help shape solutions to the most pressing challenge facing humanity – climate change.Every year, <a href="https://www.make-the-planet-great-again.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Make the Planet Great Again</a> picks a widely regarded issue concerning our environment and puts it at the center of a full blown 2 day hackathon event.You will be working side by side with fellow students across all disciplines as well as experts, entrepreneurs, activists and enthusiasts on innovative new concepts, presenting prototypes and laying the foundation for your own pro-planet project.This year, Make the Planet Great Again has supported &amp; collaborated with more than 35 companies, environmental organizations and initiatives identifying one common problem – how do you change human behavior?How can we change human behavior?No matter how good the product or how innovative the idea – if you fail to influence people to adopt it, the change you seek to make cannot scale effectively. Fundamentally, climate change is driven by human behavior, it is only with the shifting of our behavior patterns that true change can be achieved. We are working together with Make The Planet Great Again to work on new ways to address this issue.How does this work?2 days of action – Using different co-creation methods you will learn to explore problems &amp; solutions from different angles, work together with your team and pitch your results to win a private mentorship session with our community of experts &amp; advisors.30 NYU students – As an NYU student, you have the unique opportunity to join a global consortium of experts and shape the solutions of tomorrow.2 MTPGA projects – Two projects from the Make The Planet Great Again community will give you insights on their personal journey and work together with you on creating new solutions tackling human behavior change specific to their case or on influencing human behavior change within your local community.Expert juror panel – While this hackathon does have a judging component at the end, its less of a competition and more of a collaborative effort to work towards change. Teams will be presenting their prototypes at the end of the hackathon to a panel of jurors. Winners will be selected, presented and celebrated. She has mentored social entrepreneurs and changemakers around the world.Micah Kotch – Managing Director at URBAN-XMicah is an outcome oriented leader with broad experience in design, urbantech, mobility, and clean energy. He is a nationally recognised thought leader with deep relationships across multiple mobility, urbantech and energy-related sectors.Nate Pinsley – Managing Director at A/D/O by MiniNate is managing director at one of the most innovative and vibrant creative spaces in New York – A/D/O. Nate speaks and writes on the intersection of culture, commerce and innovation and has built several mission-driven organizations. As a passion project, Nate runs a small hotel in the historic LGBT community of Fire Island, NY.Odile Beniflah – Head of International at MeetupOdile is a purpose driven leader with over 10 years of experience rolling out peer-to-peer marketplaces to regional markets. Her strong entrepreneurial drive with her unique passion for building community and leveraging diversity has made her an integral part of the success story of Meetup.Peter Schwarzenbauer – Member of the Board at BMW GroupPeter is a global leader who has driven innovation across multiple industries, mentored social entrepreneurs and co-founded Make the Planet Great Again. He is also a member of the executive board of BMW Group.Anne-Laure Fayard – Associate Professor of Innovation, Design and Organizational Studies at NYU Tandon School of EngineeringAnne-Laure is an expert in socio-material practices, organizational communication, organizational culture, space, design and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Teaching at some of the most prestigious universities world wide, she has gained unique insight about the value of community and culture, specifically in regards to business.Hackathon Schedule: November 16 &amp; 17th 2019 (*full schedule to be released soon)DAY 1Kickoff &amp; Introductions – Peter Schwarzenbauer, the MTPGA team and two of our projects will introduce themselves and explain the goals and methods of this hackathon.Pick your Team! – Teams are formed and prepped to get going.Dream – Teams will carry out several different exercises to brainstorm concrete goals, identify possible roadblocks and cluster opportunities.Focus – Smaller groups within the teams will gather and ideate as well as plan methods of implementation to then present to their team.Network! – In celebration of the first day, teams will share drinks and pizza to get to know each other and get ready for day 2.DAY 2Kickoff &amp; Inspiration – The MTPGA team will summarize the first day and a second community project will share insight on their journey.Plan – The teams create a roadmap and come up with a plan of execution of their solution.DO! –The teams prepare a presentation and pitch their solution to the jury in five minute sessions.Award Ceremony – Winners are selected, presented and celebrated.Closing – Hackathon wrap up including reflection and summary of findings to conclude Students for Make The Planet Great Again 2019.**This event is only open to NYU students.***The $20 deposit is refundable upon attendance of both days of the hackathon.*
