Portland Global Game Jam® 2019 (PIGSquad at University of Portland)

The Portland Indie Game Squad is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to supporting the health and continued expansion of game developer and enthusiast communities in Portland, the Pacific Northwest, and online. We provide events, resources, and networking activities for art and technology creatives. By investing in safe environments for student, hobbyist, and professional game developers, we serve the belief that community visibility and collaboration provides value to our education, relationships, and industry.

<P><SPAN></SPAN><EM>"The <A HREF="http://globalgamejam.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Global Game Jam</A> (GGJ) is the world's largest game jam event (game creation) taking place around the world at physical locations. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development."<BR></EM>Global Game Jam gives us an opportunity to develop games amongst friends and new acquaintances in 48 hours with the <A HREF="http://pigsquad.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Portland Indie Game Squad</A>!</P>
<H2><STRONG>General Details:</STRONG></H2>
<P><STRONG></STRONG>We will begin on Friday evening at the University of Portland with a keynote, icebreakers, idea generating activities, and team forming (approx. 1-2 hours). After jammers are satisfied with their ideas and teams, they will work on their games until Sunday evening at around 8pm. To support a fun, inspiring environment, jammers are welcome to stay on site (48 hour access) at U of P for the entire weekend.</P>

<P>This event will operate in an inclusive, discrimination-free environment with no tolerance for abuse or harassment. <P>Some participants choose not to form teams beforehand, and use GGJ to inspire new relationships via the icebreakers at the beginning of the 48 hour period. Other enjoy working with people they already know or alone, and that's okay!</P>

<P>We will not have formal sleeping spaces, but organizers will be able to help set up spaces and make recommendations for those who stay overnight. Some equipment will be provided, though jammers are responsible for their own overall health, wellness, and other needs (which will be supported via suggested breaks, mealtimes, etc.). Equipment provided includes <SPAN>Computers, Internet, Power Strips, and Extension Cables. Computers with more software may become available closer to the event date. Jammers are welcome to bring towers and leave them on site over the weekend.</SPAN></P>

<H2><STRONG>Ticket &amp; Registration Details:</STRONG></H2>
<P><STRONG></STRONG>Jammers are considered officially registered when they have a ticket via this Eventbrite site. <A HREF="https://globalgamejam.org/2019/jam-sites/university-portland-portland-indie-game-squad" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Global Game Jam website registration</A> will occur the week leading up to the jam. We have room for 165 jammers.<BR></P>

<P>This year, tickets are $10 to cover costs for food, giveaways, scholarships, and the organizing team. Having a ticket guarantees your space at the jam, including meals through the weekend.<BR></P>

<P>A "Full Weekend Jammer Ticket (+ Overnight!)" reserves your ability to come/stay on and off site from the jam at any time over the course of the weekend. In the case of our site being over fire code capacity, we will ask non-ticket holders to leave, though we have never had to do this in the past. If you only need a Full Weekend Jammer Ticket but "Full Weekend Jammer Ticket (+ Overnight!)" are all that's left, grab what you can; tickets are first-come, first-served!</P>

<P>Our<STRONG> <A HREF="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdiyGj6gZyhlpIbwNOt0WkIGUr5-s9HScp_Zu3IxRchVn_OxQ/viewform" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Diversity Scholarship</A></STRONG> allows people in minority groups to apply for a free ticket: please follow the link and apply if you are interested! The application will close on end-of-day Wednesday, January 16th. </P>

<P>If tickets sell out, we will keep a waitlist and notify waitlisters of available tickets as they free up.</P>

<P>Tickets are nonrefundable up to one week before the event's start date.</P>

<H2>Participating Remotely:</H2>
<P>Depending your circumstances, you might not need a ticket to participate remotely or visit the jam site. Remote jammers or visitors are welcome to come on-site for the opening ceremonies on the Friday evening of the event. Throughout the event, we reserve the right to send remote participants or visitors home if they do not hold tickets due to capacity issues. Remote jammers or visitors will not have access to event catering or event giveaways.</P>
<H2>Sharing Your Game &amp; Showcase Event:</H2>
<P><A HREF="https://pigsquad.com/events-list/2019/2/22/global-game-jam-2019-showcase" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">We will be holding a showcase event and welcoming all jammers to set their games up to play on Monday, February 22nd </A>- save the date! More details will be emailed to ticket holders at a later date and discussed on site at the jam. We will also be hosting Mixer streaming interviews on the Global Game Jam channel over the course of the weekend event.</P>

<P>Global Game Jam is a fun event dedicated to challenging yourself in the direction of new education, friends, idea sharing, portfolio building, product building, and more! Our attendees are mostly people who have already visited PIGSquad events in the past and have an air of sharing and collaboration about them. Our space is curated to allow for multiple environments, ranging from bustling and active to quiet and focused.
