About this event

Registration is now open for the 2023 Idaho/Montana/East Oregon Disaster Training Academy! This event will be held April 28-May 1, 2023, in West Yellowstone, Montana. We hope you can join us for a long weekend packed with classes and opportunities to connect with other Red Crossers from throughout the region.

Registration Requirements: Before registering, volunteers must ensure they have completed the required training for one deployable GAP (Group/Activity/Position). This does not include DAT (Disaster Action Team) GAPs. All registration submittals will be reviewed, and accepted or denied based on meeting this requirement. If you don't have confirmation that your GAP is current, or if you are unsure, please contact your DPM or IDMTinstitute@redcross.org before registering.

Things to Know: This free training opportunity is made possible by the generous contributions of our donors and a special grant from the M.A.C. Foundation. If choosing to register, please commit yourself to attend the event. While we understand personal emergencies may create exceptions, no-shows will disqualify themselves from attending next year's Academy.

Lodging: Lodging will be available at the West Yellowstone Holiday Inn. Rooms are double occupancy.  (If you would like a single room, a supplemental fee will be required.)

Course Options: The primary goal of the Training Academy is to prepare us for DROs (Disaster Relief Operations), from Regional to National. This year we are focusing on Instructor-Led Training courses to meet Supervisor GAP requirements. Course selection will be available in early April. The following curriculum is planned for the 2023 Academy:

  • Shelter Supervisor
  • Shelter Simulation
  • Logistics: An Overview
  • Supply Fundamentals
  • Government Operations Fundamentals
  • Collaborating Essentials
  • Supervising the Disaster Workforce
  • ICCT Fundamentals
  • Staff Services Fundamentals
  • Basic Instructor Specialty Training (BIST)
    • This course requires Instructor Application/Development Plan and pre-approval
