The Business & IP Centre was launched in 2006 with the aim to support businesses, entrepreneurs and inventors grow their organisations across a range of industries.Providing small business advice, support and resources the Centre has been used by more than 500,000 individuals, a number that increases alongside our offering of business support.The success is partly due to the free business resources available to anyone who wants to use our comprehensive collection of databases and publications, as well as a great number of workshops, advice sessions and other events.

This event is taking place at the British Library and will be live streamed. For those joining us in person, the event will be following by a networking reception with drinks, where you can meet other attendees, as well as the speakers. There will also be the opportunity to enter a prize draw.For those joining us online, the panel and talk will run from 18.00 – 20.00.The tech industry has a leading figure in Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE, who is a dynamic advocate for women in STEM and a champion of STEM in education. This special event shows how her latest book, She’s In CTRL, is a guidebook for women to take back tech and to shine a light on the women in STEM daring to dream. It will empower readers make changes to the way tech can be improved, but how to get into the room where the decisions are made and create our own tech rooms. Join us for an inspirational evening with innovators within technology speaking on a panel about the important role of women and diversity in STEM sectors. This panel talk is followed by an enlightening fireside chat with Anne-Marie to discuss her new book and share the stories of other pioneers and innovators who have, against the odds, transformed technology. Also up for discussion will be a range of topics that will help you to: <ul><li>Understand the reality of starting as a female in the STEM industry and the challenges of getting started </li><li>Learn how women in the tech industry are creating their own seat at the table or ‘tech rooms’ and what steps they took to do this </li><li>Learn which aspects of STEM are mostly inspiring and recruiting women today </li><li>Learn about which innovations our panel have seen arise since the pandemic that were specifically that were created by women and why they think these have arisen</li><li>Hear about new trends within the industry that are evolving and the areas that still need more women involved </li><li>Understand the growth in interest in tech amongst women globally, including across Africa and Asia</li><li>Learn about the future of tech/STEM with the rise of AI, VR and 3D printing</li></ul>Panel Talk:D﻿ebra BabalolaDebra Babalola is the co-founder of Dotplot, a med-tech company aiming to facilitate the early detection of breast cancer. Along with Shefali Bohra, she won the UK James Dyson Award in 2022 for designing a device that can assist women in performing breast self-checks to identify suspicious lumps. She has a background in Product Design and recently completed her double master’s degree in Innovation Design Engineering between Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art. Here she explored her interest in designing for healthcare. She worked at the German Aerospace Centre to develop an interaction for upper-limb prosthetics that helps users train their prosthesis. Her ambition is to implement solutions that make people’s lives easier to live and that have long-lasting benefits for society at large. O﻿ishi DebOishi Deb is an <a href="https://ellis.eu/news/ellis-phd-program-to-kick-off-its-first-cohort-with-more-than-60-students-from-around-the-world" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ELLIS</a> Doctoral candidate in AI and Machine Learning at the University of Oxford, where her Ph.D. studies are supported by the <a href="https://gtr.ukri.org/person/5705703F-2789-45A6-9B6A-217FC418938B" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)</a>. She was selected for the DeepMind Scholar programme following a competitive selection process, and part of that DeepMind funded her Master’s in Artificial Intelligence. Oishi is also a UK STEM ambassador, and this has taken her to different places, one of the most prestigious ones is her participation at NATO’s Communication and Information Agency conference in Belgium as a panellist for the session -“<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOqoVfo31MA" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Attracting Diverse Talent</a>”.P﻿ip JamiesonPip Jamieson is the Founder and CEO of The Dots, a professional networking solution with 1 million members worldwide, quoted as being ‘networking for the modern world’ by Apple. The Dots licences its networking software as a white label solution to select clients, principally via its app. Pip was named by The Sunday Times as one of the Top 100 Disruptive Entrepreneurs innovating in their respective fields, by Founders Forum as one of the Inspiring 50 Women in Technology, and by Adweek as one of the top trailblazing leaders having a positive impact on the world.C﻿olleen WongColleen Wong started Techsixtyfour in her kitchen when her children were 18 months and 4 months old. Her first business, My Gator Watch, is one of the UK&#x27;s highest rated children&#x27;s wearable phone and tracker. Colleen is now building her next business, Silver Sircle, which is a technology support service platform for the ageing market.She was awarded Vodafone&#x27;s Innovation Award at the Women of the Year Awards 2022 and is a trustee for AgeUK Lambeth and a Board member of Bees United, Brentford Football Club&#x27;s Supporters&#x27; Trust. Prior to becoming an entrepreneur, Colleen worked in FX sales at Credit Suisse and Barclays Capital. She holds an MBA from INSEAD.F﻿ireside chat:D﻿r Anne-Marie Imafidon MBEDr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE is the co-founder of Stemettes, an award-winning social initiative dedicated to inspiring and promoting the next generation of young women in the STEM sectors. Since its inception 10 years ago, it has exposed 60,000 young people across Europe to Anne-Marie’s vision for a more diverse and balanced science and tech community.At 11, she was the youngest girl ever to pass A-level computing, and at just 20 years old received her Master’s Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Oxford. Since then, she has forged an enviable CV, including positions at Goldman Sachs, Hewlett-Packard and Deutsche Bank. Then there are the Honorary Doctorates from Open University, Glasgow Caledonian University, Kent University, Bristol University &amp; Coventry University and an Honorary Fellowship at Keble College, Oxford. She is also a Visiting Professor at the University of Sunderland and sits on the Council of Research England. In recognition of her influence and achievements, Anne-Marie was awarded an MBE in the 2017 New Year’s Honours for services to young women and STEM sectors and became an Honorary Fellow at Keble College, Oxford.
