Please join the Center for Applied Business Analytics for the final presentations from the top 5 teams for the Data for Good Hackathon! In this 5-week long project, students used pet-level and event-level pet adoption data provided by Final Victory Animal Rescue. The purpose of this hackathon was to address some of the current issues that the pet adoption industry is facing such as lack of space for new rescues, staffing shortages, cost increase and training issues. The theme for this Hackathon was “How can you utilize your analytics skills to help more dogs find their way homes”? Each team was tasked to identify a way to help Final Victory Animal Rescue by utilizing their data to build a functioning decision-support prototype or data science report. The solutions must have been geared towards the front office or adoption counselors.During the symposium, you will hear the solutions developed by the finalist teams! Each team will present their findings and solutions to the judge panel and audience. These presentations will include visual demos of their prototypes and written reports. Each team will then be judged on their creativity, usefulness, and their presentation quality!Following the presentations and lunch, we will then announce the winners of the Hackathon! The winners will receive a cash prize of $1,500 for 1st place, $1,000 for 2nd place and $500 for 3rd place! These funds were made possible through our support and partnership with IBM!Following the announcing of the winners, we will have a business expo where you will be able to network with industry leaders, the hackathon participants and your peers.
