Workshop: Beyond Senior Engineer - Developing your Career as an Architect

This event is directly supporting Women Who Code (WWCode), an international nonprofit dedicated to inspiring women to excel in technology careers. WWCode is building a world where women are proportionally representative as technical leaders, executives, founders, VCs, board members and software engineers. The organization has executed more than 14,000 free events around the world, garnered a membership exceeding 290,000 and serving members in 134 countries. DevCommunity supporting WWCode

Join us on April 21 to learn to think like an architect and incorporate the function of architecture into your current position or move into a architecture role.  This hands-on workshop will cover both the soft and hard skills of an architect, including how to communicate ideas, how to apply common patterns to technical problems, and the qualities of robust design.  We will work through the design of a familiar scenario from problem statement to final solution in small teams.  
This workshop will be taught by <A HREF="https://www.linkedin.com/in/amber-milavec-18b3124/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Amber Milavec</A>. Amber is a Principal Technical Architect at Nike. She is also the founder of We Code Hackathon. Amber's expertise lies in open source, linux, microservice architecture, domain driven design, high availability, performance, security, automation, agile methodologies, bocce ball, and unicorns!
<A HREF="https://www.linkedin.com/in/annnwallace/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ann Wallace</A> will be a TA for this workshop! Ann Wallace is a Technical Cloud Consultant at Google focusing on kubernetes, security and SRE. Before Google Ann spent 14 years at Nike in various engineering and architecture roles. CloudNOW named her one of the top 10 Women in Cloud in 2015. When not working, Ann can be found ultra-trail running around the world – and yes, she still runs in Nikes.
<A HREF="https://www.linkedin.com/in/marty-nelson-5974981/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Marty Nelson</A> will be our second TA! Marty is a seasoned developer and architect with over two decades of experience ranging from large-scale enterprise applications to startup MVPs. He has worked in heavily regulated industries including legal and financial services as well as in FDA-compliant environments. As the Head of Architecture at Accelrys (now BioVia ) he helped aligned the technology and architecture of a broad product portfolio across dozens of globally-distributed teams as well as serving as the technical lead for $300M of M&A activity. Marty's current architecture passion is Serverless architectures for startups.
