Looking Glass Factorywas founded in 2013 by a team of inventors, artists, and engineers chasing the dream of the hologram. Based in an old glass factory in the Home of the Hologram (Greenpoint, Brooklyn) and in a converted warehouse in Hong Kong. A team of over a dozen lunatics churn out new prototype interfaces each month, sharing those creations with the world.Since its founding, the Looking Glass Factory name has become synonymous with all things Hologram and Hologram Hacking. And invention parties. First making its name of Kickstarter with volumetric prints and theL3D Cube(LED cubes from the future!), Looking Glass spent most of last year working on a new type of lightfolding volumetric display - Volume. These days, you'll find most of the team huddled over a HoloPlayer One prototype, with a glimmer in their eyes."THE HOLOGRAM IS NEAR!"you may hear them whisper under their breath, as they reach into heretofore unexplored technological territory. Blade Runner 2048? More like NYC 2018! Holographic cityscapes are no longer just a sci-fi dream. Last November Looking Glass Factory launched HoloPlayer One, the world’s first interactive lightfield development kit. Now, on February 3rd 2018, Looking Glass is teaming up with Mapbox to host Holo-Hackathon #2: #HoloCities. We’re assembling a select group of “holo-urbanists” to imagine the future of holographic city maps and apps.
If you are a cities enthusiast, artist, developer, map-nerd or hologram hacker, we want you! Registration is free and there will be experienced developers on hand to help you use the <A HREF="https://staging.lookingglassfactory.com/library/holoplay-sdk/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">HoloPlay SDK</A> and <A HREF="https://www.mapbox.com/unity-sdk/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Mapbox Maps SDK for Unity,</A> Looking Glass will provide all teams with HoloPlayer One 3D display systems as well as the HoloPlay Unity SDK for use during the event.
Because space is limited, there is a cap on registration for this event. To ensure a diversity of skills and background on hackathon teams, we will ask you to <A HREF="https://goo.gl/forms/wf3f7QszfXHF0JfS2" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">fill out a short survey beforehand</A>. You will be confirmed for the event once you have received an email confirmation from our team. The presentations and afterparty in the evening are open to all, so invite your friends!
