Girls in Tech works to erase the gender gap in tech. Today, every industry is a tech industry, with a need for people of all skills and backgrounds. We offer education and experiences to help people discover their unique superpower and hone it. We aim to see every person accepted, confident, and valued in tech—just as they are.We’re changing tech.  Women have made up less than 25 percent of the hires in tech over the past 20 years. <h3></h3><h3>HACKING FOR HUMANITY, GIRLS IN TECH NYC 2022</h3>In-person Girls in Tech, NYC hackathons are back! This hackathon enables developers, creatives, and entrepreneurs from all over the NYC &amp; tri-state area to co-create solutions to some of the most pressing challenges facing us today. Go from an idea to a working proof of concept within a weekend!<ul><li>Get hands-on experience developing your focused skill set</li><li>Collaborate with experienced mentors &amp; join a workshop to learn new skills </li><li>Network &amp; build relationships with like-minded people in the local start-up community</li><li>Participate in group pitches in front of local business leaders</li><li>Win prizes!!</li></ul>This year, teams will have the opportunity to partner with non-profit organizations to help formerly incarcerated people re-enter the workforce. Solutions will be evaluated in the following areas: innovation, impact and viability of implementation. NO technical skills required! Open to marketers, technologists, strategists, creatives, humanists and students. This event is a woman-, man-, non-binary-, POC-, and LGBTQIA-friendly environment! We welcome this opportunity to anyone who is interested…in fact, the more diverse the team is.. the better the solutions! This event will provide skill-building optional workshops. Mentors will also be provided to help teams think through problems.You can register with your own team (teams of 3-5 people) or get matched the week leading up to the event.<h3>WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN?</h3>Hustlers/Entrepreneurs: Hackathons are great places to test ideas, build a startup, build leadership and practice your pitching skills.Designers/Creatives: Design for real company scenarios and expand your portfolio. This is a chance to apply design thinking methodologies from ideation to research to prototyping.Hackers: Create a technology toolkit that can have real impact. Challenge your coding skills and use it as an opportunity to learn new languages and tools.Students: Hackathons provide lots of opportunities to get startup-like work experience. It’s a great way to build your resume and demonstrate your drive, your ability to be creative, work in teams, and innovate.Corporate Employees: If you’re looking to break out of your current role, or are reentering the workforce, Hackathons are great for sharpening and developing new skills, experimenting with new job roles. <h3>WORKSHOPS</h3> Workshop 1: U﻿X Engineering - Saturday 10:30 AM - 11:30 AMThe UX Engineering Workshop will cover how to create a blog post site with svelte and leverage Google firebase in website creation and maintenance. These foundationals on website creation will support people from both technical and non-technical backgrounds looking to learn more about the real-life applications of UX Engineering. Instructor: <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/nvurdien/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Navie Vurdien</a>, UX Engineer at GoogleNavie was born in New York, raised in Orange County, California, and went to college at CSU Fullerton. Upon graduation, she moved to Austin, TX to work in the Cloud Technical Residency program at Google as a Customer Engineer and eventually moved to Sunnyvale, CA to work as a Solution Engineer. Today, Navie is a UX Engineer for Cloud specifically the cloud.google.com site! In her free time, she loves to travel and goes on at least one international trip a year. When Navie is home, you can find her chilling with her cat, Jasmine, playing with her PS4 and switch, or watching shows.

Workshop 2: Database Engineering - Saturday 12:00 PM - 1:00 PMRecommended preparation: Download and watch this <a href="https://www.udemy.com/course/complete-microsoft-sql-server-database-administration-course/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Introduction to SQL</a> video before your course starts You were given a spreadsheet which contains everything about your customers –their name, gender, address, products they have bought. What would you do with all this information OR what can you do with all this information? When you know SQL fundamentals, you can slice and dice that data any way you want, providing critical insights that drive business strategy. This SQL Workshop is the beginner level interactive way to get started on database administration, data analysis and handling. Instructor: <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/abbas-mehmood-21466a14/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Abbas Mehmood</a>, Sr Database Administrator at Everydayhealth Abbas Mehmood has been working as a Sr Database Administrator at Everydayhealth for the last 10 years. He is an accomplished database administrator and developer. He enjoys using his skills to contribute to the exciting technological advances that happen every day at Everydayhealth. Abbas completed his MS in Computer Sciences from The City University Of New York in 2008 and has a bachelor's degree in Computer sciences from Pakistan with a major in Database Management. One of Abbas’ passions is teaching. He has a couple of best-seller courses on udemy for MSSQL DBA and MySQL DBA.

Workshop 3: Customer Centricity - Saturday 1:15 PM - 2:15 PMIt is no secret that companies with high customer satisfaction consistently meet or exceed financial performance goals and have a more engaged workforce. In this workshop, participants will learn what it means to put the customer at the focal point of all decisions through the examination of three of the Top Growth Companies for 2022 who have used digital innovation to drive a customer centric business.Instructor: <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/shellyashwill/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Shelly Ashwill-Powers</a>, VP of Global Operations at VerizonShelly Ashwill is the Group Vice President of Global Service Management, Customer Global Operations within the Verizon Business Group. With over 30 years of telecommunications and technology services experience, Shelly has held leadership roles across operations, sales, channel marketing, and customer service. Shelly was previously the Group Vice President for Global Client Services for Verizon’s Fortune 50Enterprise, Government, and Education clients. Shelly also served as Vice President of US mid-market Sales, where she was responsible for the retention and growth of the client base leveraging inside sales and Value-added Resellers.

Workshop 4: Product M﻿arketing at Google and Beyond - Saturday 2:30 PM - 3:30 PMThis workshop will feature an overview of the different marketing options that exist at Google and more broadly. Maria will share what skills are most often used in marketing and share what her day to day looks like as a product marketer.Instructor: <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/mariatbecerra/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Maria Becerra</a>, Associate Product Marketing Manager at Google Maria is an Associate Product Marketing Manager at Google and has worked with the Google Ads product on a regional and global scale. She has a background in cognitive science and psychology and in her free time she loves to read at different coffee shops in New York.

Naimeesha’s work in community building and product management has been published in major media outlets like Forbes, Builtin, and even an Amazon bestseller titled, F.O.R.G.E.D.: Six Practices of Great Leaders in Volatile Times.Naimeesha is also a Forbes Council Member, a Founder, an Angel Investor, an educator and a tech conference speaker and serves as an advisory board member at Pace University.
