Doctors Without Borders//Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural or man-made disasters.
We also advocate for access to life-saving medicines, diagnostic tests and vaccines for patients in our programmes and beyond.
We know that companies are accountable to their shareholders. So if shareholders can start demanding lower drug prices, then maybe the companies will begin to transform their business practices. Most people don’t know it, but they actually have the power to use their voices to demand change. It appears that through their 401k accounts, millions of people actually own shares of pharmaceutical companies, and can make the companies accountable for their action. The problem is that the majority of Americans who have a 401k account are unaware of what investments are in their portfolio.
We're calling all developers, designers, and strategists to help increase the awareness of 401K investors and the power shareholders have to effect change.

Friday, March 10th 6:30pm-8:30pm  Welcome! Hackathon brief - challenge and project scope will be presented. Meet &amp; greet - mixer to meet participants and start thinking about forming groups
 Saturday, March 11th 9:00am-7:00pm Hack day! Sunday, March 12th 9:00am-5:30pm Presentations/demos will begin at 4:00pm. Winners will be announced by the end of the day. 
 
MEET THE JUDGES
Véronique Brossier, Software Engineer at the New York Times, developing apps that bring the news to your mobile devices. She has written software, and designed, for companies such as the Museum of National History, the Museum of Modern Art, MTVNetworks and Picture Projects. She is an adjunct professor at NYU Interactive Telecommunication Graduate Program and a member of the MSF-USA Board of Advisors. She is a French-American duo citizen.
Will Varner, Illustration Director, currently works for BuzzFeed Entertainment Group where he runs Illops, a team focused on making illustrated visual content for the web. He has an MFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts and a BFA in Painting from Brigham Young University, Provo. Will loves drawing, storytelling, and comics. Eliza Pepper has over 25 years of experience developing investment programs for ultra-high net worth clients. For most of her career, Eliza has focused on asset allocation and investment manager research and selection.  She started her career at Chase Manhattan Bank providing investment advice to pension funds, endowments and foundations.  After Chase, Eliza worked as Senior Consultant at CTC Consulting Inc., a subsidiary of US Trust Corporation.  Eliza joined The Citigroup Private Bank in July, 2001 to lead the global manager research and selection effort. While at Citi, she developed the open architecture platform focusing on traditional and alternative investments.  She visited over 200 investment firms per year and frequently traveled to Europe and Asia to source new funds and service client relationships. After Citigroup, Eliza was Head of Research for UBS Financial Services and Managing Director at Itaú USA where she focused on managing multi-asset portfolios. Eliza received a Masters in Public Administration from New York University; a Business Administration degree from Fundação Getulio Vargas (Brazil); and a Piano and Music Theory degree from Pio XII Conservatory (Brazil).
