<P><SPAN>SendGrid and FullContact, two Colorado software leaders and technology success stories, are coming together with the Denver Broncos to bring Denver its first Tackle STEM Colorado All-Stars Hackathon! </SPAN></P>
<P><SPAN><SPAN>The Hackathon challenges college and code school students to explore feasible ideas, develop their </SPAN></SPAN>team skills, and strengthen their network. The prizes are pretty great too!</P>
<P>We are honored that <STRONG><A HREF="http://www.denverbroncos.com/team/roster/russell-okung/26511820-959a-45cc-b433-eeef9f8c0e2e/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Russell Okung</A></STRONG>, offensive tackle for the world champion Denver Broncos, is joining us on Sunday, November 20th as a special guest judge. In addition to his football accomplishments, Russell is a startup investor and takes an active role in promoting tech and STEM education through his regular “Tech Tuesdays with Russell” series on the Broncos website. We are thrilled that Russell has chosen to spend his bye week Sunday with us!</P>

<P>Also joining us will be special guests Mike Jeffries and Julie Simancek, part of the <A HREF="http://www.chaoscorps.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Chaos Corps</A>, and their 250lb combat robot Bombshell. Bombshell is the result of the collaboration of a large team of makers and hackers based out of Atlanta, GA and represented SendGrid during Season 2 of BattleBots. You’ll have a chance to meet these experienced hackers and learn about their fighting bots.</P>

<P>This is a 36 hour, non-stop event.  Entrance is via Gate 2 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.  Security will be on-site the entire time, so you can come and go as you wish (wristbands will be issued at check-in).  If you plan to stay the whole time (and that's super cool!) you might want to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, and other stuff like that for a comfy place to crash! Cots, beds, mattresses, hammocks, nests, yurts etc will not be provided, so come prepared!  Food and beverages will be provided - Hackers need fuel!</P>

<H3>Are there any age and ID requirements for the event?</H3>
<P>This event is limited to college students and code school students. It is an 18+ event.</P>
<H3>What’s a hackathon?</H3>
<P>Think of it as a science fair combined with a race, or a show-and-tell where everyone has a short of amount time to build what they’ll show.</P>
<H3>This is my first hackathon. What can I expect?</H3>
<P>Here’s a <A HREF="http://news.mlh.io/your-first-hackathon-10-07-2013" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">great recap of a hacker’s first hackathon experience</A>, with some tips on how to make the most of the experience.</P>
<H3>What if I don’t have a team or an idea?</H3>
<P>Don’t worry, most people will probably be in this position. Friday night will be a great time for brainstorming, networking, and team creation.</P>
<H3>What should I bring?</H3>
<P>Bring your laptop or whatever other machine/machines you need for your project.If you plan to stay for the whole event, bring a sleeping bag or a blanket. You might also want to bring some snacks (especially if you have dietary restrictions). <H3>What about hardware hacking?</H3>
<P>We will have a limited amount hardware available for loan for you to hack on: Oculus Rift Dev Kits, Pebble watches, Muse headbands, and Intel Edisons with Base shields.We are also extremely grateful to SparkFun for donating some <A HREF="https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13826" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Raspberry Pi</A> and <A HREF="https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12060" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Arduino-compatible</A> starter kits. If you’re new to hardware hacking, these are a great way to get acquainted! Combining hardware with http API calls can create some cools hacks.Sphero has also donated some Sphero robots. They encourage people to break them apart and us the brains for things like a <A HREF="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh69aY-uZUc" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">smartphone controlled blender</A>.We will not be able to provide solder stations, so if you need to solder something, please make sure you have what you need.</P>
<H3>How will hacks be judged?</H3>
<P>Each team will have a short amount of time (2-3 minutes) to present their hack to a panel of judges. Judges will be given an opportunity to ask short questions after each demo.Judging a hackathon is always hard, but in general we follow the 5 points outlined at the bottom of <A HREF="http://news.mlh.io/how-to-judge-a-hackathon-finding-the-chosen-one-05-15-2014" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">MLH’s “How To Judge a Hackathon”</A> blog post. We understand that there is a wide cross-section of skills and ability levels at a hackathon, and we want to reward as many as possible. In addition to the top three hacks, we’ll be judging in a number of categories, such as: Best Hardware Hack, Best Solo Hack, Best Sports Hack, Funniest Hack, Most Useful Hack, Most Polished <A HREF="http://Hack.It" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Hack.It</A>’s shaping up to be a great event. As a reminder, please bring your student ID (or if you’re a code school student, proof of enrollment).
