Description

We invite you to join us from noon-1 p.m. ET on Thursday, Sept. 22, for an online OVEE broadcast featuring impact conversations with three of our five 2016 Media Impact Festival honorees: Question Bridge: Black Males, Hollow, and The Counted.

Since 2014, Media Impact Funders has been showcasing the work of producers dedicated to creating documentaries in the public interest through our annual Media Impact Festival. This year, we celebrated the power of interactive technologies to deepen the relationship between news and documentary projects and their audiences. Our 2016 selections—celebrated at our annual Media Impact Forum—span a range of interactive techniques, participatory reporting, physical installations, and personalized digital experiences.

Through a partnership with OVEE, an online cinematic social visual experience created by ITVS, we’ll conduct interviews with Bayete Ross Smith, one of the artists who produced Question Bridge; Elaine Sheldon, director, producer and editor of the interactive documentary Hollow; and Jon Swaine, reporter at The Guardian, producer of the interactive website The Counted. We’ll show clips of the projects so you can experience the innovative ways these interactive technologies impact society, and engage in an online chat with all of you.

Unfamiliar with the projects? Learn more:
Question Bridge: Black Males — A transmedia project that facilitates a dialogue between black men from diverse backgrounds and creates a platform for them to represent and redefine black male identity in America.
Hollow — An online documentary that addresses the rural “brain drain” faced by communities in West Virginia.
The Counted — A journalism project and database created by The Guardian to track the number of people killed by law enforcement in the U.S.

Learn about the goals, lessons learned and outcomes in the case studies for each project.

We hope you'll join us for this thought-provoking online event and participate in our live conversation.
