Hack Against Violence

Dev Bootcamp pioneered the short-term, immersive developer bootcamp, a model that transforms people of all skill levels into highly employable web developers in a matter of months. The 18-week curriculum with integrated career training, creates technical aptitude, along with the interpersonal skills that today’s employers demand. With more than 2,800 graduates to date, and locations open in San Francisco, Chicago, New York City, San Diego, Seattle, and Austin, Dev Bootcamp immerses students in the supportive learning community they need to accelerate and shape their careers.

<H2>ABOUT HACK AGAINST VIOLENCE</H2>
Next to killing thousands of innocent people, acts of violence have given rise to even more unrest and exclusion across societies.  There is a time to reflect and mourn for the victims of these attacks and there is a time to act!  
Do you want to move beyond sharing “#prayForInsertTragicEventHere” and apply your skills to come up with practical ideas on how to prevent violence and encourage interaction among social groups?

This event is open to the whole SF tech community. Seriously, you don't have to be an expert to join this hackathon.
Registration | We have limited slots available, so please sign-up here.
Projects | Projects must be designed to follow the core concerns listed below. Individuals will pitch ideas Friday evening, then teams will be determined based on interest and skill level.
Teams | Teams of 4 to 5 will be formed Friday evening.
Judges | Our judging panel is made up of industry influences, educators, hackathon pros and civic leaders.

We challenge participants to come up with ideas to:

This broad formulation aims to keep the door open for innovative ideas beyond what we could think of.
To give you some guidance however, we include some examples of projects that we consider to be very interesting:
TWITTER SPEAK-TO-TWEET
In 2011, Google and Twitter partnered up to create Speak-To-Tweet, in an effort to overcome internet blackouts in Egypt during anti-government protests there. The service allowed people without access to the Web share messages on Twitter via voice mail. For each call, the service instantly posted a message to Twitter with a link to listen to the message.
AMAZON ALEXA - IMPLICIT BIAS LISTENER
Most of us have implicit biases towards various social groups. One can picture an Amazon Alexa skill that listens select conversations and makes you aware of any implicit biases that come out of the transcript
