<h1>Mastering Functional DevOps with Nix</h1>

<p>On the 30th of November (a day before the Functional Scala Conference), we are bringing you a unique one-day workshop “Mastering Functional DevOps with Nix” by Lee Hughes the author of the Nix Camp. Nix OS is one of the hottest operating systems currently gaining ground in the DevOps Space. You will learn how to provision and install the Nix OS operating system and deploy a system and applications. You will begin to master the many steps that occur when the code you write is deployed to production.</p><h2>Overview</h2><p>Nix/OS is one of the hottest operating systems currently gaining ground in the development/security/operations space. Nix/OS is powered by the nix expression language (nixel), a functional domain-specific language that can be used to fetch, build, configure and deploy operating systems and applications.</p><p>Over the course of this full day workshop, attendees will learn how to provision and install the nix/OS operating system and deploy a system and applications. Attendees should bring a laptop along to access remote ssh machines. Attendees can optionally bring a laptop to install nix/OS itself.</p><p>We cannot offer installation of nix/OS within a VM environment.</p><h2>Materials</h2><p>A number of infrastructure as code examples will be shared on the day of the workshop with attendees. There is no need to download or prepare these materials in advance.</p><h2>About the Author</h2><p><strong>Lee Hughes</strong></p><p>A self-proclaimed unix Janitor and devops uni(x)corn, Lee has worked in about every role in the IT industry, within fortune 500 companies. Large scale Internetworking, Multi flavour unix administration , systems &amp; security engineering, 3rd line troubleshooter, and developer success roles.</p><p>He cut his teeth early in life as a Unix C developer and was doing devsecops before it had a cool name. He still has a fondness for bash. His childhood was mainly messing with 8 Bit C64/Spectrum 6502/Z80 and then moving up to 16-bit assembler for 68000 of the Atari ST / Amiga. He misses the days that stuff just worked, hence his current love affair with reproducible software and systems.</p><p>Currently, Lee works as a principal devsecops engineer at Platonic. Systems consulting for various clients who are interested in working Deterministically. He is also Chief Technology Officer at Z.I.O.N.I.X , a brand new next-generation internet startup.</p><p>Lee can also be found building &#x27;real world&#x27; architecture in the form of Geodesic structures, which he designs from the doctrines of Buckminster Fuller and Jaque Fresco. When not Nixing Lee is a multi-instrumental percussionist and teacher, currently devoting his little spare time to the mastery of the Handpan.</p><p>Lee Hails from the deep within a Welsh national park where he lives on a boat.
