Overview

January 11th--14th, ITAM and Mixtape Sessions are hosting a workshop in Mexico City! January 15th will be an additional day for PhD Students

Join us in Mexico City to learn panel data causal inference methods including Difference-in-differences and modern synhetic control! From January 11th -- January 14th, Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and Mixtape Sessions are teaming up to host an in person workshop. This workshop will dive deep into the intricacies of difference-in-differences and synthetic control estimators, with a strong focus on practical tips and hands-on coding implementations. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to enhance your understanding and application of these advanced statistical methods.

On Friday January 15th, Mark Anderson and Daniel Rees will be hosting an add-on workshop for "Doing Applied Research" aimed at PhD Students and early career researchers.

Dates: January 11th -- 14th, 2028 (and optional January 15th)

Times: 9:30am - 5pm (GMT-06:00) with a 1.5 hour lunch break

Location: ITAM University

Tickets

These tickets include your ticket to the 4 day in-person workshop. Tickets are $225 for students and post-docs and $500 for faculty. An additional 1 day ticket for the "Hidden Curriculum of Doing Applied Research" class is $125. Please email info@mixtape.consulting for student discount codes.

Course Schedule

The four day course will start from the beginnings of DID, bring you up to speed with the modern difference-in-differences literature, and introduce more general panel data inference methods including synthetic control and factor model estimation methods.

Here is an outline of topics and who is teaching that topic:

  • Review of Difference-in-differences (Scott Cunningham)
  • Difference-in-differences with covariates and doubly robust DID (Scott Cunningham and Kyle Butts)
  • Problems with staggered treatment timing (Scott Cunningham)
  • Modern approaches to DID estimation (Scott Cunningham)
  • Synthetic control (Kyle Butts)
  • Advanced Synthetic control and factor model methods (Kyle Butts)

For a sense of what we cover, see the material we used in Madrid this past spring. Throughout, Scott and Kyle are excited to talk with you about your research and try to help you think through problems as well as we can!
