About this event

  • Event lasts 4 hours

Bring your lawn chairs and your lunch for a lovely morning by the Patuxent with Fred Tutman, the Patuxent Riverkeeper. Fred was born and raised along the Patuxent River as were seven generations of his ancestors before him. He is among the longest serving Waterkeepers in the Chesapeake region and the only African-American Waterkeeper in the nation.

We'll bird along the Patuxent and may pay a visit to the active farm that has been Fred's ancestral home for more than a century.

Carpooling options on registration. Please indicate whether you can provide or need a ride.

Thank you for making our outdoor experiences one of the most popular outings in the DMV! All of our bird walks and trips are open to the public, and our walks operate on a donation basis, with the exception of our free monthly walk and special trips. Your generous support plays a crucial role in sustaining our programming, which includes our world-class guides. If you have binoculars, please bring them along, and we do have a limited number of spare binoculars available for use. Space can be limited, so registration is mandatory to ensure that everyone has a joyous experience in nature. See you outside!
