2021 Part-Time Faculty Institute - Virtual Event

Formed in 1970, the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges is a 501(c)6 nonprofit organization. Created for the promotion and advancement of public community college education in California, its general purposes are:To strengthen local academic senates and councils of community colleges;To serve as the voice of the faculty of the community colleges in matters of statewide concern;To develop policies and promote the implementation of policies on matters of statewide issues;To make recommendations on statewide matters affecting the community colleges.The Academic Senate gets its authority to strengthen local senates on California community colleges statewide from the California Code of Regulations Title 5 Section 53206, which says:(a) An Academic Senate for the California Community Colleges has been established through ratification by local academic senates or faculty councils so that the community college faculty of California may have a formal and effective procedure for participating in the formation of state policies on academic and professional matters.(b) The Board of Governors recognizes the Academic Senate of the California Community Colleges as the representative of community college academic senates or faculty councils before the Board of Governors and Chancellor's Office.

The Part-time Institute will host a series of workshops and panels that aim to provide professional development activities, career advice and mentorship, and networking opportunities to part-time faculty in the California community colleges. This conference will focus on driving change toward equity and unity, specifically addressing the interaction of theory and praxis that many part-time faculty members find themselves navigating alone. The 2021 conference will boost discussions, voices, and representation of adjunct faculty across the state of California, both seasoned and new, and will specifically highlight contemporary issues and delightful enigmas that adjuncts face as formerly known “freeway flyers.” Part-time faculty bring unique values and perspectives to college campuses, and this year’s institute provides a platform for an intersectional welcoming dialogue for all.The event will take place in the virtual event platform Pathable. All attendees will receive an email prior to the event with a unique user login. The platform works with email as your user id, so please make sure all attendees emails are their actual emails. If you are an admin and are registering a group of people, please make sure you are prepared with each persons unique email. Registration will not be canceled due to non-payment.</li><li>Unpaid balances owed to the Academic Senate must be paid off before an attendee can register for a future event.</li></ul>The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee.
