About this event

NARCAN Time Machine is a “trauma clown” solo performance and public health project. Like too many of us, John Michael is processing the grief of losing two friends to drug overdose. Using clowning and audience participation, John Michael subverts theatrical form and traditional advocacy to explore drug use, harm reduction, community care, mental health, suicide, and stigma. With help from the audience, the show teaches all attendees how and when to use NARCAN. This workshop performance is graciously supported by the Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts at Northwestern University, and all audiences will receive free NARCAN provided by COIP out of UIC.

“A celebration of life, … Big belly laughs.... Art never dies!” ★★★★★- Free Press

“Turning trauma into something [in which] audience members can walk away with tangible skills, to me is a really powerful message, and I wanted to bring it to our students. One student told me the show changed his life low-key six months after the event.” - Mira Krivoshey, MPH, CHES, Director of Health Promotion (Loyola University, Chicago)

“There was no shortage of hilarity and entertainment. Audience members left not only with a box of Narcan and practical skills to use it, but also with open hearts and minds. I believe our communities are made safer when stories like these are shared and people are empowered with the skills and knowledge to save lives.” -Tanya Fisher, Outreach and Education Coordinator at the Lutheran Social Services of Illinois
