We provide a plastic flute, tuned and carefully sourced from Kyoto, Japan. Although it's not made of bamboo, it's included in the participation fee and yours to take home after the workshop. Please note: the number of flutes is limited, so early registration is recommended.
Morita Baisen (Japanese “Shinobue” Flutist, Composer)
Baisen was born in Tenryu village in Nagano Prefecture. She plays a variety of flutes, including concert flute, alto flute, Shinobe (Japanese bamboo flute), Jomon flute, meteorite and jade flutes, Ryuteki and Noh Kan, Kokoro whistle and Indian bamboo flute. Baisen debuted as a performer at two concerts in New York and Hawaii in 2007.
Besides playing in concerts and events around the world, Baisen also performs special pieces which are dedicated to the gods of famous temples and shrines across Japan, including such places as Ise Jingu Shrine, Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine, Izumo Taisha Shrine, Yasaka Shrine, and Yakushi statue.
Baisen's albums released include "Arigato", "Kokoro Hibiki", "Manyo Ka", "Sennen no Nagisa", and "Kukuri Hime". As Baisen tours around the world, her music gains in popularity.
