Description

Year of the Pig—2019

In ancient agricultural China, the New Year occurred during a lapse in farming, so people celebrated with a festival. Housewives made various foods and desserts, and everyone got together for a celebration. In true Chinese tradition, Xiang Yun Temple will host a Chinese New Year Celebration in the temple’s main shrine and courtyard on February 10, 2019, to bring in the Year of the Pig.

We will begin the festivities with a special chanting service to worship the Buddha and welcome the year 2019. Following the service will be a vegetarian food fair, Chinese cultural performances (ethnic dances, martial arts, lion dances), and cultural booths. Each booth offers a different cultural experience: a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, writing in calligraphy, Buddhist texts, souvenirs, face painting, and children’s games.

Schedule

Thousand-Buddha Dharma Service: 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
