About this event

The purpose of this event is for Postdocs to meet Ph.D. professionals in a range of career sectors in a relaxed, conversational atmosphere. In prior years, 100+ postdocs have attended this event, indicating the interest and value of such opportunities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year we will hold dedicated career panels for different sectors.

The 1st career panel will be dedicated to STEM Education & Outreach careers. Join us virtually to meet professionals in the field. Panelists will share their career journeys and answer questions from the participants.

Panelists bios

Latasha Wright, Ph.D. - Chief Scientific Officer at BioBus

Latasha received her Ph.D. from NYU Langone Medical Center in cell and molecular biology. She continued her scientific training at Johns Hopkins University and Weill Cornell Medical Center. She has co-authored numerous publications, presented her work at international and national conferences. BioBus enables Latasha to share her love of science with a new generation of scientists. Latasha spearheaded the creation of the first BioBase community lab, the BioBus internship program, and our Harlem expansion. Everyday that Latasha spends teaching students about science in this transformative environment helps her remember that science is fun. She loves sharing the journey of discovery with students of all ages.

Allison Mayle, Ph.D. - Educator at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory DNA Learning Center NYC

Allison Mayle (she/her) is an Educator at the CSHL DNA Learning Center NYC. After completing a PhD in Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine, Allison spent two and a half years as a postdoc at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center before following her passion for education into her current role at the DNALC. Allison teaches lab-based classes to middle school and high school students and manages the Urban Barcode Research Program, which engages high school students in research projects under the mentorship of scientists. Allison is also the communications coordinator for 500 Women Scientists NYC.

Matteo Farinella, PhD - Scientific Multimedia Producer at Columbia Univeristy's Zuckerman Institute

After completing a PhD in neuroscience from University College London, in 2013, he has been combining his scientific expertise with a life-long passion for drawing. He is the author of Neurocomic (2013), The Senses (2017) and other science comics on a variety of topics. Between 2016 and 2019 Matteo was a Presidential Scholar in Society and Neuroscience, at Columbia University, where he studied comics as a tool for science communication and storytelling. In his role as multimedia producer he works with the rest of the Zuckerman Institute Communication team, to translate the latest neuroscience research in compelling visuals accessible to a wider audience.
