About this event

During this visit, Sharon will talk about her new book Out of My Heart, the stunning sequel to the acclaimed New York Times bestselling middle grade novel Out of My Mind. Melody, the huge-hearted heroine of Out of My Mind, is a year older, and a year braver. And now with her Meditalker, she feels nothing’s out of her reach, not even summer camp.

Students can purchase copies of Sharon's new book, as well as previous titles on this order form. Students and faculty will have until Monday, December 13th at 11:59pm ET to place their orders. The event is free of charge, and a book purchase is not required to participate in the event.

To purchase books, click on "Tickets" and select the book titles you wish to purchase. The price includes tax and shipping, and books will be shipped to your school by An Unlikely Story about two weeks after the virtual visit. Copies of Out of My Heart will come with a signed bookplate, while supplies last.

ABOUT THE BOOKS:

Out of My Heart (hc) There have to be camps for differently-abled kids like Melody, and she’s going to sleuth one out. A place where she can trek through a forest, fly on a zip line, and even ride on a horse! A place where maybe she really can finally make a real friend, make her own decisions, and even do things on her own—the dream! By the light of flickering campfires, through the terror of unexpected creatures in cabins and the first sparkle of a crush, Melody’s about to discover how brave and strong she really is.

Out of My Mind (pb) Eleven-year-old Melody is not like most people. She can’t walk, talk or write because she has cerebral palsy. But she also has a photographic memory; she can remember every detail of everything she has ever experienced. She’s the smartest kid in her whole school, but NO ONE knows it. Most people—her teachers, her doctors, her classmates—dismiss her as mentally challenged because she can’t tell them otherwise. But Melody refuses to be defined by her disability. And she’s determined to let everyone know it…somehow.

Blended (pb) Eleven-year-old Isabella’s blended family is more divided than ever in this story about divorce and racial identity. Eleven-year-old Isabella’s parents are divorced, so she has to switch lives every week: One week she’s Isabella with her dad, his girlfriend Anastasia, and her son Darren living in a fancy house where they are one of the only black families in the neighborhood. The next week she’s Izzy with her mom and her boyfriend John-Mark in a small, not-so-fancy house that she loves.

Stella by Starlight (pb) Stella lives in the segregated South—in Bumblebee, North Carolina, to be exact about it. Some stores she can go into. Some stores she can’t. Some folks are right pleasant. Others are a lot less so. To Stella, it sort of evens out, and heck, the Klan hasn’t bothered them for years. But one late night, later than she should ever be up, much less wandering around outside, Stella and her little brother see something they’re never supposed to see, something that is the first flicker of change to come, unwelcome change by any stretch of the imagination.
