During PaliBu Day of Service, Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin is bringing together neighbors from Pacific Palisades and Malibu to support local nonprofits and community organizations through meaningful hands-on service projects.
The Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains will be hosting an oak care event at Nicholas Flat in Leo Carrillo State Park to heal just a small piece of these impacted mountains.
During this event, volunteers will help the RCDSMM care for previously planted oaks by watering, weeding, and mulching trees as well as potentially planting new acorns to replace those trees that may have died. Volunteers will also collect meaningful data to aid in an ongoing reforestation project the RCDSMM is conducting.
Please wear clothes you are willing to get dirty in as well as durable shoes. Be sure to bring a sun hat, layers and drinking water. To help you prepare for the day, we'd like to mention the event will involve between a 0.25-1 mile hike over mostly flat, decomposed granite trails. You will need to navigate through these trails while carrying a 5-gallon bucket or buckets, half-filled with water. Please note, while this is an ADA accessible event, there are no restrooms on site, however our team can direct you to a nearby location.
We will be meeting at the trailhead of Nicholas Flat at Decker School Rd. Carpooling to this event is encouraged as parking is limited!
Join your neighbors and help heal fire impacted wildlands with the RCDSMM.
